The aerobic granular sludge (AGS) technology is an innovative, compact and energy efficient wastewater treatment process that seems to be mature for full-scale implementation around the world.
Elin is a research engineer at VA SYD and an industrial PhD student at Chalmers. She works with the research project AGNES III, in which aerobic granular sludge (AGS) is tested for wastewater treatment in pilot-scale at Sjölunda WWP in Malmö.
In the project, AGS is combined with pre- and post-treatment to optimize the utilization of wastewater organic matter and simultaneously produce fertilizer from phosphorous and parts of the nitrogen. Finally, the water is filtered for low effluent concentrations. The aim is to develop resource efficient and compact wastewater treatment which contributes to sustainable cities.
AGNES III is a cooperation between Chalmers, VA SYD, Sweden Water Research, Promiko AB and Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands).
