Biofilters have been used to treat drinking water for over 200 years. Despite their long history, little is known about these filters. Water is pumped…
Kristjan has a degree in Master of Science in Engineering, Biotechnology with a specialization in bioprocess technology at the Faculty of Engineering in Lund (LTH). He also did an exchange in Perth at the University of Western Australia.
Kristjan did his master thesis at the department of applied microbiology at LTH where he investigated how to rapidly detect changes in the microbial communities of drinking water. During his studies he also worked as a tutor in the basic course of calculus. In June 2016 Kristjan started as an industry-employed PhD student at the department of applied microbiology at LTH.

Involved in project
Biofilm in Water Utilities
Flow cytometry – a rapid method to study bacteria in water
This project will fractionate different parts of the fingerprint and look more specifically on which types of bacteria is present in certain fractions of the fingerprint with DNA sequencing.
UV irradiation as a microbial safety barrier
This project will investigate how UV irradiation affects the whole community of microorganisms in drinking water.
