Clean games on the Neman river, Kaliningrad

“Clean games on the Neman river: Neman and Baltic without microplastic” was held in the Kaliningrad region on 21st of September 2019.

Plastic pollution is not a new problem for the society but as we see previous methods engagement of the citizens to participate in the cleaning campaign needed to be updated.

“Clean games on the Neman river: Neman and Baltic without microplastic” was held in the Kaliningrad region on 21st of September 2019. In the World CleanUp Day, 108 participants joined to common cleaning quest nearby one of the biggest rivers in the Kaliningrad region – Neman.

Clean Games – a team competition

Clean Games is the special format of the team competition developed by an initiative group of people from Saint-Petersburg. The main idea is separately collecting litter, and then the winners get the prizes from the sponsors.

Participants of such events get the experience of waste management and waste sorting in the form of a fun game. 10 partners and sponsors provided different services and prizes for the Clean Game on the Neman river.

242 bags of waste collected

During the 1,5 hours game, participants collected 242 bags of wastes is around 1330 kilos including 48 kilos of plastic and 42 kilos of metal which were further exported for recycling. It has to be noted during the game commands also got additional marks for the special tasks related to microplastic pollution and participants includes different ages from children to seniors.

For the promotion of the event, 3 own sources and 1 contract with regional info portal were used. Furthermore, 7 interviews were given, 15 press-releases on the Games and 7 post-releases in different sources.

Participants evaluated the Clean Games on the Neman river highly showing this as a great opportunity to spend funny and useful time together.
