Sludge biochar as an adsorbent for pharmaceutical residues

One of Testbed Ellinge's first Master Science projects is now underway! Veronika Jörntell will look at sludge biochar's ability to adsorb pharmaceutical residues in municipal wastewater treatment.

The choice of process when introducing removal from organic micropollutants in municipal wastewater treatment plants is usually between the use of ozonation and activated carbon. The potential of utilising sludge biochar as a carbon source in activated carbon has been studied in the literature with varying results (Ihsanullah et al., 2022). At Lund University, Betsholtz et al. (2018) studied the subject.

MSc student Veronika is attending the engineering master program in biotechnology at Lund University and is expected to finish her MSc thesis in June 2024. Her supervisor at Lund University is Åsa Davidsson.
